Visual Search Firm PiXlogic Lands In-Q-Tel as Investor and Customer
By VentureWire Staff Reporters
6/6/2003

LOS ALTOS, Calif. -- PiXlogic, a provider of visual search engine software, said it received an undisclosed amount of strategic funding from In-Q-Tel, the private venture group funded by the Central Intelligence Agency.

This is the first time the company has received any outside funding, vice president of marketing Bob McKee said. Aside from the funding, In-Q-Tel has also become a customer of the company's. Although Mr. McKee could not say specifically what In-Q-Tel will be using the software for, Mr. McKee said the company's technology fits right in with the security space. In fact, the company has one other undisclosed security firm that's pilot testing the software right now.

Mr. McKee said the company's software indexes and searches object information in digital images and video. Users can search news broadcasts across the world or satellite pictures, for example, based on key information. The company has seen interest in the broadcast, advertising, entertainment and media industries; as well as the mobile space, in which the technology would be used with mobile handsets with embedded cameras.

Mr. McKee said the company will seek another round of funding, targeting between $4-6 million. The company has ten employees.
